Florida State Football Recruiting: 2026 safety Tedarius Hughes commits to FSU – Tomahawk Nation

Filed under:
The Seminoles add a defensive back from South Florida to #Tribe26
Mike Norvell and the Florida State Seminoles have landed another verbal commitment, but this time it’s for #Tribe26. FSU welcomes an under-the-radar South Florida safety prospect who calls FSU his “dream school.”
Dreams do come true, young buck!

Tedarius Hughes is a 6’3”, 175 pound defensive back who plays for South Dade in Homestead, Florida. He is ranked as the 374th best player in the nation by the 247Sports Composite (32nd best safety, 64th best player in Florida). Those rankings will rise in time.
Hughes chose the Seminoles over several other offers from the likes of the Charlotte 49ers, FAU Owls, Louisville Cardinals, Nebraska Cornhuskers, Syracuse Orange, UCF Knights, UConn Huskies, and USF Bulls. The hometown Miami Hurricanes are likely to offer soon.
Hughes earned his Florida State offer in April and performed well at the June 9th FSU Elite Camp, holding his own against all comers and showing off his impressive length and quickness. He has the type of frame that coaches Pat Surtain and Adam Fuller love.
In limited action last season, Hughes picked off four passes (one for a pick six) and tallied 15 tackles in six games. He flashes solid tackling technique but needs to be more consistent in that regard, but he does a great job reading the quarterback’s eyes and closing quickly on ball carriers. This looks to be a case of FSU jumping in early on a prospect who could blow up with a strong camp circuit performance and season ahead.
