Tom Moody had words of caution for the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) chief selector against picking Lucknow Super Giants speedster Mayank Yadav for the T20 World Cup, stating that it would be better if India opt to prepare him for the 2026 edition.
The 21-year-old has taken the Indian Premier League (IPL) by storm showcasing his blistering pace which even took some of the top international batters by surprise. His bowling has had a massive impact with the quick bowler picking up six wickets in just three games indicating a significant impact with the ball.
Since making his mark in the tournament, the speedster has already notched some of the fastest deliveries of the tournament as he notched a delivery which went at 156.7 kmph making it the fastest delivery of this season’s IPL.
In a match against Gujarat Titans at the Ekana Cricket Stadium, Mayank had to walk off the field after bowling just one over, where he was down on pace and was hit for three boundaries, conceding 13 runs overall.

Moody feels Team India should not have a ‘knee-jerk reaction and pick him in the World Cup’.
“I’ve loved what I saw for a first couple of games, it was quite extraordinary to the point you want to see the replays of that game. But you cannot have a knee-jerk reaction and pick him in the World Cup, when he has only played two games and got injured,” Moody was quoted as saying to ESPNCricinfo.
“You don’t really know what he’s capable of doing over a long period of time, under pressure and in different roles. Yes, he’s an absolute lock for the future, and look after the asset. For me, it’s the 2026 World Cup you should be looking at (with him),” he added.
Mayank resumed training but was not named to play against Chennai Super Kings at Ekana Cricket Stadium.
