Christopher Grotheer second in St. Moritz ahead of Amedeo Bagnis
St. Moritz (RWH) Seven races, seven podium finishes and now his second consecutive victory: Skeleton athlete Matt Weston of Great Britain has won the IBSF World Cup 2024/25 at the Olympia Bobrun St. Moritz Celerina (SUI) – with a new season track record on the only natural ice track in the IBSF World Cup (1:07.22 seconds).
This means that the 2023 World Champion before the last race of the season is on course to defend his World Cup title and claim his second overall victory. The IBSF World Cup skeleton final will take place in Lillehammer, Norway, at the beginning of February.
Second place in St. Moritz went to Olympic and World Champion Christopher Grotheer (GER, 0.54 seconds back).
Amedeo Bagnis (ITA, 0.56 seconds back) celebrated the first podium finish of the season for the 2026 Milan-Cortina Olympics hosts with third place at the Olympia Bobrun. Amedeo Bagnis won silver at the 2023 World Championships in St. Moritz.
The top six were completed by 2022 Olympic silver medallist Axel Jungk (GER) in fourth place, US athlete Austin Florian in fifth place, and Samuel Maier from Austria and the 2020 Youth Olympic Champion Lukas Nydegger (GER), who tied for sixth place.
In the overall standings for the IBSF World Cup 2024/25, Matt Weston (GER, 1480 points) extended his lead after seven of eight races. His teammate Marcus Wyatt (GBR, 1357) is second overall – the 2024 European Champion finished eighth in St. Moritz. In third place before the final: Christopher Grotheer (GER, 1310), who had won the first four races but had to sit out the race in Sigulda (LAT) in December 2024 due to injury.
