FIFA confirmed on Monday that the draw for the inaugural 32-team edition of the Club World Cup, to be held in the United States between June and July 2025, will take place on Thursday, December 5, in Miami.
By the date of the draw, all qualified teams will be known, with the final slot awarded to the winner of the Copa Libertadores final, in which Brazilian teams Atlético Mineiro and Botafogo will face off in Buenos Aires on Saturday, November 30.
Atlético Mineiro could secure its second title, having won previously in 2013, while Botafogo, leader of the Brazilian league, aims for its first, which would secure their place in the Club World Cup, just five days before the draw.
The continental champions from 2021 to 2024 who have already secured their places include Seattle Sounders (USA) and Pachuca, León, and Monterrey, representing CONCACAF; Al Ain (UAE), Urawa Reds (JPN), and Al Hilal (SAU) from the Asian Confederation; Chelsea (ENG), Manchester City (ENG), and Real Madrid (ESP) from UEFA; Fluminense (BRA), Palmeiras (BRA), and Flamengo (BRA) from CONMEBOL; and Wydad (MAR) and Al Ahly (EGY) from the African Confederation.
Additionally, based on rankings across each confederation from 2021 to 2024, the following teams have also qualified: Salzburg (AUT), Juventus (ITA), Benfica (POR), Porto (POR), Atlético de Madrid (ESP), Inter Milan (ITA), Borussia Dortmund (GER), PSG (FRA), and Bayern Munich (GER) from UEFA; Auckland (NZL) from Oceania; Boca Juniors (ARG) and River Plate (ARG) from CONMEBOL; Ulsan (KOR) from the Asian Confederation; and Mamelodi Sundowns (SAF) and Espérance (TUN) from CAF.
FIFA also confirmed Inter Miami as the penultimate qualifier, representing the host nation after its standout performance in the 2024 MLS regular season. The team, captained by Argentine world champion Leo Messi, set a historic single-season points record in the U.S. league, achieving 74 points with 22 wins, 8 draws, and just 4 losses from February to October.
FIFA also recently announced the twelve stadiums that will host the tournament and revealed that Seattle Sounders will play all their group-stage matches at Lumen Field.
The first edition of the Club World Cup will begin on Sunday, June 15, 2025, at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami and conclude on July 13 at MetLife Stadium in New York-New Jersey, which will also host the final of the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Mexico, and Canada the following year.
