Wood River boys soccer denied back-to-back state championships – KMVT

IDAHO FALLS, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — Three of our area teams were looking to take home first place at the state soccer tournaments Saturday, and one of those was in 5A, as the Wood River boys were looking to repeat as state champs.
Tough start for the wolverines as Elijah Grimaldo dribbled through everyone and got a shot to the bottom corner 1-0 Vallivue.
Then in the middle of the first half, Grimaldo hits the bar and it bounced out right to the knees of Jose Bonilla and that doubled the Falcons lead and they would take that 2-0 lead to half.
Out of the break corner for Wood River hits a Vallivue defender and right to Andres Hernandez for what looked like a goal, but the official controversially ruled the play offsides.
With 17 minutes to play in the second half the dagger came from Ryan Steinbach giving the Falcons a 3-0 lead and they were feeling a state championship coming on.
Wood river would look to break the goose egg and would do so on a goal from Nandy Inga in the seventieth minute, but the deficit and disallowed goal would be too much to overcome.
Vallivue defeated Wood River 3-1 to deny them back-to-back state championships.
The Wolverines only two losses this season came to the 5A and 6A state champions (Vallivue, Boise).
