COLUMBUS, Ohio – In a tightly contested matchup, the Ohio Dominican women’s soccer team fought to a 1-1 draw against the Northwood University Timberwolves in GMAC play.
Northwood struck first, capitalizing on a well-placed shot inside the 18-yard box. Brooke Honeycutt led the way for Northwood, scoring their lone goal and contributing to their heavy offensive pressure.
Ohio Dominican found the equalizer in the second half, thanks to freshman Madeline Hartke. Amid a chaotic scramble inside the Timberwolves’ box, Hartke found just enough space to fire a right-footed shot into the goal, marking her second career goal for the Panthers.
The final 15 minutes saw the Timberwolves press for the win, peppering the Panthers’ defense with multiple shots on target. However, goalkeeper Maggie Krosky stood tall, making five key saves in her half of play, including a critical stop in the dying moments when she secured a dangerous cross just before a Northwood player could capitalize.
The Panthers recorded a flurry of shots late in the game. Ohio Dominican tallied seven shots in the second half, with three coming in the final seven minutes as they sought a game-winner.
The physical battle saw a combined 20 fouls between the teams as both sides fought for control of the match. A win would have propelled either team into the top spot in the GMAC standings, but the draw keeps the race tight.
