With T20 World Cup 2024 in focus, Travis Head eyeing good IPL campaign for SRH – News9 LIVE

New Delhi: Australian batsman Travis Head had a successful year with the bat for his team in 2023. The left-handed batter has scored a century against India in the final of the ICC Cricket World Cup and the World Test Championship final last year. Head is currently playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the IPL 2024 and he has been providing an explosive start to his team with Abhishek Sharma.
Head has scored 133 runs at a strike rate of 172.33 in the four IPL matches. The Australian batter said that playing in the IPL is helping him to prepare for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024.
“With the World Cup coming around the corner and, hopefully, being involved in that squad and batting at the top of the order it gives me good preparation here in the IPL to try and get some runs and have a little bit of form going into the World Cup”. Head told PTI in an interview.
He also said that it is important for him to stay mentally fresh throughout the IPL “I think it is important for me to make sure that I’m mentally fresh throughout the IPL and continuing to work on my game, and making sure that I am ready for the World Cup when that time comes. But I am feeling like I am prepared and ready at the moment,” he added.
Head also talked about the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 Final and said that it was the biggest match of his career and his contribution with the bat in such an important match made it much more special for him.
“I think the World Cup final was probably the biggest match of my career, regardless of whether I got runs or not. It was a huge moment. Obviously, I have not played in a World Cup before. So, to have all the stuff that happened, making it to a final and then being able to contribute in the final makes it all so much better”.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru will take on Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 30th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2024). RCB is currently placed at the bottom of the points table with just one win in six matches and they will look to get the two points to keep their playoff hopes alive. SRH is at the fourth spot on the IPL standings with three wins in five matches.
