Nate Letton has certainly has seen changes to his tight end group since this time last year.
Why ‘variety’ may be key to more production from Wisconsin’s tight ends
Letton now enters his second season as a University of Wisconsin football assistant, and the program infused talent for him to mentor in LSU transfer Jackson McGohan and true freshmen Grant Stec and Rob Booker II.
But the following players from last year’s spring roster are no longer playing for the Badgers: Clay Cundiff, Cole Dakovich, Jack Eschenbach, Cam Large, Jack Pugh and Hayden Rucci.

That said, there’s some “variety” with the tight ends that could be intriguing this fall. Here are three things that stood out from Letton’s chat with reporters Wednesday.
The Wisconsin tight ends are asked to do a lot within Phil Longo’s Air Raid scheme. Letton discussed routes they’re asked to run in the passing attack, and how he works with the group.

The tight ends didn’t make a large impact on the Badgers’ passing attack during the 2023 season, catching a combined 26 passes for 268 yards and two touchdowns. Eleven of those 26 receptions came from Rucci, who’s now off to chase NFL aspirations after participating in Wisconsin’s pro day last month.

Stec and Booker signed with Wisconsin as part of a vaunted 2024 recruiting class. The program listed Stec, a former four-star recruit, at 6 foot 6 and 260 pounds. Booker has not participated in the last three practices, but Letton liked what the Waunakee standout brought to the weight room early on.
