Wisconsin football is a proud program with a lot of proud alums.
Not every year is perfect but regardless of any struggles the Badgers had, they always found a way to defeat Nebraska.
Not anymore.
Wisconsin was thoroughly beaten in all three phases by a hungry and more physical Huskers team on Saturday in a 44-25 loss. Simply put, Nebraska had its way with the Badgers.
The loss snapped Wisconsin’s 10-game winning streak to Nebraska that dated back to the 2012 season. The Badgers are now 5-6 and in jeopardy of missing a bowl game for the first time since 2001, another stunning development.
The alums have been paying attention all season with critiques and often expressed their displeasure on social media. There was plenty of blame to go around and to discuss after the latest beatdown.
The program’s most famous alum JJ Watt understands that losses will happen. But how they’re happening is the problem.
“Hearing announcers talk about how much tougher and more physlial Nebraska & Iowa are while getting blown out … that’s the issue,” the three-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year tweeted Saturday night.
He knows the formula that Wisconsin needs to return to:
“We are Wisconsin,” Watt wrote. “Physicality, running game, great O-Line and great defense. That is our identity.”
Former all-Big Ten running back and All-American Brian Calhoun, was more concise with his assessment: “Speechless.”
Former all-Big Ten cornerback Sojourn Shelton never felt good about this team from early in the season. He appears to be right.
He posted today: “We are doomed.”
While the Badgers were making Nebraska look like the greatest show on turf, former all-Big Ten running Anthony Davis showed his frustration with a GIF that summed it all up:
And then there was running back Braelon Allen, who is just a year removed from the rivalry. His crying emojis represented the Wisconsin fan base as a whole.
