Winchester teenager Sophie Harwood is in the England team at the FIFA Women’s Under-17 World Cup this week.
Sophie, 16, is in the Dominican Republic with her teammates following a preparation camp in Miami.
She started football in Winchester City Flyers and her school team at St Faith’s. After seven years at Southampton Football Club, she joined Arsenal’s under-21s this year.
The former King Edward VI School pupil concentrates on her full-back roles having also played internationally across the three midfield positions. She was part of England’s last two under-17 Euros campaigns and has captained England on a number of occasions, including to the largest winning margin of any Lioness team against Germany: 3-0 in September 2023.
The Young Lionesses face Kenya, Mexico and North Korea in their group. The top two teams in each group will progress to the quarter-finals, with the final being played on 3rd November.
