The Olympic roster for the U.S. men’s national soccer team has been set.
Team USA announced the 18-person roster for the Paris Olympics in a TODAY exclusive July 8.
The team, led by coach Marko Mitrović, includes defender Walker Zimmerman, who made the USMNT roster for the 2022 FIFA World Cup and played in all four matches, and midfielder Tanner Tessmann, who plays professionally for Venezia FC in Italy.
The Paris Games will mark the first time the U.S. men’s national soccer team will compete in the Olympics since 2008.
The U.S. qualified for the Olympics in 2022 after beating Honduras in the under-20 championship for the Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football.
The men’s Olympic soccer competition is primarily made up of players under 23 years old, with each team allowed three older players. Twenty-five men were called to training camp in May.
Here’s a look at the squad.
Sixteen teams qualified for Paris. Team USA is part of Group A, which consists of France, Guinea and New Zealand.
The men’s soccer competition kicks off July 24, with Team USA to face France. The U.S. takes on the rest of the group on July 27 and July 30.
The men’s quarterfinals are set for Aug. 2 and semifinals on Aug. 5. The bronze medal match will occur Aug. 8 and the gold medal match on Aug. 9.
