The transfer portal officially closed for Tennessee football when the clock struck midnight on Saturday night. It was an incredibly dramatic transfer portal period for the Vols as they lost 14 total players and there were rumors that more players would hop in the portal.
But despite some rumored big names entering portal, Tennessee only lost one starter from 2024 and two players that projected to be starters in 2025.
The bulk of the damage was at receiver where six of Tennessee’s eight returning scholarship players entered the transfer portal. A handful of those players weren’t major losses but starting slot receiver Squirrel White entered the portal as did former five-star and expected starter in 2025 Mike Matthews.
There’s a chance that Matthews will take his name out of the portal and return to Tennessee in 2025 but for now he’s looking at other options for his second college season.
Elsewhere, Tennessee lost some solid rotational pieces but had no devastating losses in the portal. The Vols lost three defenders that played but none of them were starters or expected to be starters in 2025.
So which Tennessee players entered the portal this December? Taking a look at the full list here.
