Every year, global soccer governing body FIFA holds its own awards ceremony to recognize the most outstanding players from around the globe in the beautiful game.
FIFA originally had a collaboration with France Football for the Ballon d’Or gala, but went off on their own to produce their own litany of individual silverware.
Past award winners of the top prize, The Best men’s player, include Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Erling Haaland, and many other global superstars in recent years. This year, it will be fascinating to watch if FIFA follow suit with the Ballon d’Or to award Rodri with the commendation, or if they will recognize someone else such as Vinicius Jr. to create a discrepancy.
