On Wednesday, 18 December, Real Madrid will take on CF Pachuca of Mexico in the FIFA Intercontinental Cup final.
The match is effectively a re-brand of what was formerly known as the Club World Cup final but since that tournament has now been expanded and moved to the summer, FIFA have transformed its previous iteration into the Intercontinental Cup.
The premise is still the same with the winners of each continent’s Champions League equivalent coming together for the tournament. The final puts together Real Madrid, the 2024 UEFA Champions League winners, against CF Pachuca, the 2024 CONCACAF Champions Cup winners.
For all the key information on when the Club World Cup final will take place and where its being held, our guide below has you covered.

The 2024 Club World Cup final, now known as the Intercontinental Cup final, is being held in Lusail, Qatar. The stadium being used for the final, the Lusail Stadium, was also the host for the 2022 FIFA World Cup final between France and Argentina so is used to holding huge events.
The Lusail Stadium still retains the 88,966 capacity that it was built with but the plan is to reduce this to 40,000 in the near future with Qatar unlikely to hold any other major sporting events in the near future.
The entire tournament has been played in Qatar with the nation making the most of the money pumped into football infrastructure for the World Cup two years ago.
It doesn’t look as if the Lusail Stadium will be a sell-out for the Intercontinental Cup final as FIFA are still trying to sell tickets for the match on their official website. The price categories for tickets are as follows:
It isn’t anticipated that many fans from either Real Madrid or CF Pachuca will travel over for the match due to the complex logistics and price involved.

The Intercontinental Cup final is set to take place on Wednesday, 18 December with kick-off scheduled for 20:00 local time. This means that the match will actually start at 00:00 on Thursday, 19 December in the United Kingdom due to the four-hour time difference.
In previous years, fans got to enjoy the third-place playoff directly before the final but that match has been scrapped from this year’s version of the tournament.
The 2024 Intercontinental Cup final between Real Madrid and Pachuca will be shown live on beIN Sports and beIN Sports Espanol. As there were no English teams competing at the tournament, no broadcasters in the United Kingdom purchased the rights meaning British fans will have to wait for the highlights on YouTube to see any of the action.
Last year’s final was shown live on TNT Sports but the viewing figures must have been disappointing as the broadcaster hasn’t elected to purchase the rights this time around.
