WORLD CUP 2026
We’re almost at the halfway stage of the World Cup qualifying campaign in the CONMEBOL zone, where six guaranteed tournament berths are on the line. What’s more, a seventh team will head into an intercontinental play-off.
Ten teams are in contention and after eight games, Argentina, Colombia and Uruguay have impressed and are odds-on favourites to secure their berths at the 2026 finals, which are to be hosted by the US, Canada and Mexico.
Bolivia currently sit in eighth spot, level on points with seventh-placed Paraguay, and will be looking to make a statement this week when Copa América finalists Colombia make the trip to El Alto, with the 22,000-capacity Estadio Municipal El Alto opening its doors for the clash. Altitude is set to be one of the chief obstacles for the second-placed Colombians: the game is being staged at 4,100m above sea level.
