The final month of the 2024 college football season has arrived, heralding the release of the second of six College Football Playoff rankings. These rankings are a key determinant in identifying the teams that are in contention for the national championship in January.
The initial release of rankings set the stage for significant movement as the season continues. Oregon debuted at No. 1, while Ohio State, Georgia, Miami, and Texas occupied the next four spots in the top five based on their performance over the first ten weeks of the season.
The second rankings will be released following an exciting Week 11 of games, which included several crucial matchups. These matchups are battles that will shape the rankings, reflecting the positioning of potential conference champions and the current standings of teams vying for at-large bids.

Additionally, there will be a CFP selection show on Sunday, December 8, to announce the 12-team playoff field.
The College Football Playoff rankings are announced weekly during a CFP rankings show that airs on ESPN every Tuesday, from November 5 to December 3. This week’s show is scheduled for Tuesday, November 12, starting at 8:30 p.m. ET.

The College Football Playoff rankings show will air on ESPN, with the broadcast starting at 8:30 p.m. ET on Tuesday, Nov. 12. Fans can also stream the show on Fubo, which is a offering a free trial.
This season marks the first time there are 12 teams in the College Football Playoff (CFP), which originally began in 2014 with a four-team format. The expansion to 12 teams will be implemented for the 2024 and 2025 college football seasons. However, leaders in the sport have not yet reached an agreement on the structure of the playoff beyond those seasons.
The College Football Playoff will feature 12 participating teams. These teams will comprise the five highest-ranked conference champions selected by the CFP selection committee and the next seven highest-ranked teams.
The top four highest-ranked conference champions will be seeded one through four and receive a first-round bye. The fifth conference champion will be seeded based on its ranking among the top 12 teams; if it is not ranked within the top 12, it will be seeded at No. 12. Non-conference champions that are ranked in the top four will be seeded starting from No. 5.
