A trip to the National Championship game is on the line later this evening with No. 5 seed Texas (13-2) taking on No. 8 seed Ohio State (12-2) in second College Football Playoff semifinal.
The semifinal round got kicked off last night, with No. 7 seed Notre Dame (14-1) beating No. 6 seed Penn State (13-3) in a 27-24 back-and-forth affair where Notre Dame’s place kicker drilled a 41-yard game-winning field goal with seven seconds left in regulation.
The Fighting Irish now await the winner of the Longhorns and Buckeyes in tonight’s Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic from AT&T Stadium in Dallas.
To get to this point, Texas defeated No. 12 seed Clemson 38-24 in the first round of the CFP and then won a 39-31 double overtime thriller against No. 4 seed Arizona State in the Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl.
It’s been a different path for the Buckeyes, who have won each of their first two playoff games by 20+ points. It started with a resounding 42-17 win versus No. 9 seed Tennessee in the CFP first round and a dominant 41-21 victory against top-seeded Oregon in the Rose Bowl.
Will the Buckeyes continue to roll and aim for their first time title in a decade, or can the Longhorns pull off the upset and win their first National Championship in 19 seasons?
