The United States is already a place in which we can watch some of the best athletes in the world from various sports disciplines. Many of them bring fans to the stands to see these modern-day gladiators battle for trophies and recognition in their respective leagues. US national teams always put a challenge and go for the top places in every competition. That is why it is no surprise to know that the games of FIFA 2026 will be hosted in the US. Among many cities, New York was selected to participate in hosting this event.
For the first time in 32 years, and since the 1994 World Cup (played also in the United States), we will have this competition in North America. The US, Canada, and Mexico were selected to hold the largest-ever World Cup. FIFA decided to expand the competition from 32 to 48 teams, to the joy of the fans, and players of amazing sites like gamechampions. This will most certainly make the competition more exciting for the audience and more difficult for the teams that participate.
And even though 3 nations are hosting it, it is all about the US, since 11 out of 16 cities are here. Mexico offers Monterrey, Mexico City, and Guadalajara. Canada has Vancouver and Toronto as hosts, while in the US the games will be played in Kansas City, Dallas, Houston, Atlanta, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Seattle, San Francisco, Boston, Miami, and of course, New York/New Jersey. This means that a lot of fans will have a chance to enjoy this spectacle, as the FIFA World Cup is considered the biggest and most watched sports event in the world!
Upon realizing that the US would host the World Cup, it was natural to assume that New York/New Jersey Stadium would be one of the selected venues. There was no doubt that this iconic, multi-purpose stadium located in East Rutherford would have a significant part in the spectacle that is the World Cup. Its main purpose is to host the NFL teams New York Giants, and New York Jets. This venue was opened in 2010, and its value is set at 1.6 billion USD. However, even with 104 games that will be played in the 2026 tournament (make sure to prepare snacks for them), it seems that this stadium has some of the best.
People lucky enough to get the tickets will enjoy 5 of the group-stage games. Since the qualifications are yet to be played, we can’t know which teams or groups will be hosted in this venue, but we know that matches 7, 17, 41, 56, and 67 of the group stage will be played here. After that stage, we will have the knockout phase matches, specifically one in the round of 32, and one in the round of 16. And after that, the pitch will be rested for a true spectacle – the final match of the World Cup 2026 on Sunday, 19th July!
No matter which is the preferred sport in each country all over the world, they all stop and savor the moment when the FIFA World Cup starts. The United States is one of the 3 countries that will host this event in 2026, and the New York/New Jersey stadium will open for numerous matches and the main event – the final game. People from New York have every reason to be happy about it.
