It’s largely about home games, short trips, and familiar opponents for several Alamance County teams in the girls’ soccer state playoffs.
Western Alamance received the No. 1 seed in the Class 3-A East Region when the brackets were unveiled Friday, with a first-round game against a neighboring rival.

No. 32 seed Williams (6-9-1) will visit the Warriors (18-0-2) on Monday night.
First-round games are slated for Monday, with second-round encounters likely Thursday. It all leads to the state finals May 31-June 1 at Mecklenburg County Sportsplex in Matthews.
The Class 3-A East Region bracket has Central 3-A Conference teams clustered together in addition to the Williams/Western game. The winner of that game could face league member Cedar Ridge (12-6-1), which is the No. 16 seed and home vs. No. 17 seed Richlands (13-8-1), in the second round.
Meanwhile, defending state champion Eastern Alamance (10-6-1) holds the No. 15 seed for a home game against conference neighbor Orange (9-5-2), the No. 18 seed. The Eagles and Panthers split two one-goal games, including Eastern’s 3-2 home victory Wednesday. That outcome gave the Eagles second place and left Orange in third place in the league.
Southern Alamance (10-11) is in the field as the 30th seed with a short trip to third-seeded Carrboro (19-2), which has surrendered only three goals during a 13-game winning streak.
In Class 2-A, as the No. 18 seed, Southeast Alamance (11-8) will carry a three-game winning streak on the road to face 15th-seeded Farmville Central (9-2-1).
In Class 1-A, No. 14 seed River Mill and No. 15 seed Clover Garden will begin with home games after finishing in second and third place, respectively, in the Central Tar Heel 1-A Conference.
River Mill (10-8) has a matchup with East Columbus (7-7-1). Clover Garden (10-8) is home vs. No. 18 seed North Moore (4-10-2).
