Well, the 2026 FIFA World Cup may not be so good for New Jersey after all – NorthJersey.com

Regarding “World Cup plays hardball with taxpayers,” NorthJersey.com, April 16:
When this event was first announced I cheered, like most people. It sounded like a win for New Jersey. But after reading your story of the backroom deals, which will be a benefit to FIFA and a huge burden to New Jersey taxpayers, I withdrew my support. Why is an organization that will rake in billions of dollars from this event entitled to handouts? Why is New Jersey agreeing to these backroom deals? No sporting organization should be exempt from taxes. FIFA should pay its share, and not the New Jersey taxpayer.
And there is no need for free public transportation to the event. We managed fine for all other sporting events and concerts. If MetLife Stadium can survive the crowds of Swifties, it can survive the World Cup. Gov. Phil Murphy, if you’re reading this, please reconsider. Our taxes are high enough.
