'We'll Always Have Mexico': The Untold Story of Israel's Marvelous National Soccer Team in the 1970 World Cup – Arts … – Haaretz

An Israeli TV series shines a new light on a unique achievement in soccer but also on a time when 'Israel was brimming with pride, feeling omnipotent and super popular in the world'
It’s been almost 54 years now since that time – the only time – that
Israel played in the World Cup. So much has already been written and said about that splendid team that still casts a shadow over Israeli soccer. But the new series, “We’ll Always Have Mexico,” created by Ofer Shelah and Dr. Omer Einav, finally manages to give the people who made up this squad, and their unique sporting achievement, a worthy platform.
“This story has never been told in a comprehensive manner, from all the angles,” says Einav. The series was jointly produced by the Sports Channel and the KAN public broadcaster and its five episodes started airing on KAN on May 20.
