The World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) announced Sunday’s schedule for the WBSC Men’s Softball World Cup Group B Play-Offs after the completion of the Opening Round on Saturday, with four teams playing for the two available spots in next year’s Finals in Prince Albert, Canada.
The top four teams in the Group B standings advanced to Sunday’s Play-Offs where the top two sides in the standings will play each other for the first ticket to the Finals. The loser of the first play-off game will then play against the winner of the game between third and fourth, for the second spot in the Finals.
Argentina clinched the No. 1 spot in the standings with a 5-0 record, followed by New Zealand with a 4-1 card. Both teams will play at 16:00 local time at Rotary Field with the winner punching their ticket to next year’s Finals in Prince Albert
Canada and Singapore earned the third and fourth-place spots respectively, and will face each other in an elimination game at 13:00.
The winner of this game will play against the loser between New Zealand and Argentina for the second spot in the Finals. This game is scheduled at 19:00.
Hong Kong, China and Israel will play for fifth place at 10:00.
The XVIII Men’s Softball World Cup is played under the two-stage format. The Dominican Republic and Australia advanced from Group A; while Group C is scheduled to take place from 17-21 September in Oklahoma City, USA.
The top two teams in each group, plus two wild cards, will move to the WBSC Men’s Softball World Cup Finals next year, which will take place from 8-13 July, 2025 in Prince Albert, Canada.
