India have not won any ICC trophy since the 2013 Champions Trophy, which they won under MS Dhoni. The Indian cricket team came close at the ODI World Cup 2023 but fell at the ‘final’ hurdle against Australia.
Speaking about that final that India played on home soil and what it will take for India to end an 11-year wait for another ICC trophy, former opener Virender Sehwag stressed the need to be fearless in approach.
In a recent video going viral on social media, Virender Sehwag criticised and pointed out mistakes made by Virat Kohli and KL Rahul in the ICC World Cup 2023.
The Veteran Team Indian opener Virender Sehwag pointed out Virat Kohli‘s mistake and said his strike rate should have improved and KL Rahul should have taken the strike and made run aggressively.
“If I look back on the last ODI World Cup final that we lost to Australia, nobody played fearless cricket between the 11th and the 40th over; we hit only one or two fours,” Sehwag said in a recent video.
“I think that mindset is needed in that (Indian) dressing room when you go into a knockout match, you play fearlessly, with bravery, play with some risk. That, I think is lacking.”
The former cricketer pointed out that in the ODI World Cup against Australia, the final Indian team lost the match in the middle overs. The players did not play fearless cricket and instead tried to control their gameplay. From the 11th to the 40th overs the batsman did not show an aggressive temperament and fearless cricket.
He also pointed out that players should have taken every match as a knockout match and set their minds accordingly.
