Residents of Vieux-Fort say they were excited to see the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Trophy and local cricket legend and ICC Ambassador, Daren Sammy in Vieux-Fort yesterday, April 20.
Although the gathering was not a large one, persons who attended the event, which was held at the Vieux-Fort Independence Square, said they enjoyed every moment of it.
They were entertained by some of our top local soca artists, such as Sly and Arthur Allain, and the band Tambu Mele, which created a carnival-like atmosphere.
Many of them took photos with Sammy holding the trophy.

They expressed hope that the West Indies cricket team would win the trophy this year under his leadership as head coach.
Sammy is the only captain to win the T20 World Cup twice.
Crista St Jour, who described herself a cricket fan said: “It’s a great feeling to see the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Trophy and Daren Sammy in Vieux-Fort. I am backing him to win the trophy.”
However, she lamented that the turnout was not what she expected.
“I expected much more people to show up because it is an important event. I don’t think Vieux-Fortians know its importance.”
Another said, “I am very excited. St Lucia is a cricket nation and the matches which will be held here will help boost the tourist industry. It will be a great opportunity to showcase our hospitality.”
“I am hoping we will win the World Cup,” he added.
Corona Austin said, “I feel great taking a photo with Daren Sammy. It is the first time I have gotten so close to him.”
“I really want the West Indies to win the World Cup this year. We have very good cricketers,” she said.
A young lady who described herself as a cricketer said Sammy is a good leader and has what it takes to lead the West Indies to victory in this year’s ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Trophy.
