UW football lands top player in Oregon as first 2026 commit – The Seattle Times

Jedd Fisch got a jump start on his 2026 class Thursday. The Washington coach didn’t have to look far from Seattle for his first recruit.
The Huskies picked up their first commitment of the 2026 class on Thursday, landing a pledge from Lake Oswego, Ore., athlete Ansu Sanoe. A 247Sports composite four-star prospect, he’s currently the No. 1 player in Oregon, the No. 11 athlete in the country and the No. 83 player in the class of 2026.
Sanoe, who plays at Lakeridge High School in Lake Oswego, also held offers from Oregon, Oregon State, Washington State, Arizona, Arizona State, California, Georgia, Miami, California, Colorado, Tennessee, Texas A&M, and BYU. Washington was his most recent offer, arriving just two months ago.
While Sanoe is listed as an athlete, he plays running back and linebacker in high school, he’s been primarily sought after on the offensive side of the ball. Running backs coach Scottie Graham was his lead recruiter, and Sanoe told 247Sports he will play tailback at Washington.
“I have the confidence that I can go anywhere in the country and ball out but the people there in the facility are why I chose this school,” Sanoe said, “and being close to home is also just really great for me and my family.”
The 6-foot-1, 210-pound Sanoe fits the profile of running backs Fisch has enjoyed success with during the past.

Michael Wiley, listed at 5-foot-10.5 and 210 pounds at the NFL combine, rushed for 1,384 yards and 13 touchdowns during the three years he played under Fisch at Arizona. Wiley also caught 97 passes for 952 yards and 12 touchdowns from 2021-23. He was an All-Pac-12 honorable mention during the 2022 season.
Similarly, 2023 All-Pac-12 honorable mention Jonah Coleman and sixth-year tailback Cameron Davis — the front-runners to split carries for Washington in 2024 — weighed in at 225 pounds and 212 pounds, respectively.
True freshman Adam Mohammed, who followed Fisch and Graham to Montlake after enrolling early at Arizona, is listed at 6-foot, 200 pounds. Julian McMahan, Washington’s 2025 running back commit out of Monte Vista High School in Danville, Calif., measures in at 6-foot-2, 195 pounds.
According to an evaluation written on Tuesday by 247Sports recruiting analyst Greg Biggins, Sanoe is “one of the premier power backs in the Northwest.”
“He’s more quick than fast,” Biggins wrote, “has a nice initial burst and routinely breaks 2-3 tackles and is tough to bring down once he gets rolling. He’s more of a straight line, north-south runner but will occasionally show some wiggle and the ability to make a defender miss in the hole. Has some contact balance to him and runs hard and is usually the one delivering the blow on contact. With two years of development before he hits college, we’d love to see him continue to improve his overall speed, twitch and fluidity.
“He runs tight at times and can definitely make a jump in his game adding more burst and overall explosiveness to his toughness and power.”
