One of the greatest goalkeepers in USWNT history is retiring from international play. Alyssa Naeher will play her two final matches for the USWNT against England and the Netherlands.
Today, USWNT and Chicago Red Stars goalkeeper, Alyssa Naeher has announced her retirement from international soccer.
“With immense gratitude and very thoughtful consideration, I have decided to retire from th international game following the conclusion of these matches in Europe,” said Naeher. “Having the opportunity to be a part of the USWNT for the past 15 years has been the greatest honor. When I began this journey, I never could have imagined where it would take me, and now I find myself so grateful for all the incredible teammates that I have shared the field with; teammates that have turned into lifelong friends. To all my teammates, coaches and staff, thank you all for pushing me, supporting me, and making me a better person/player every single day. A special thanks goes to my family. You have traveled all over the world and were in my corner every step of the way and I love you all.”

The USWNT legend will play her final two matches on November 30 and December 3 in Europe. Naeher’s final two games will be against the Lionesses in front of over 80,000 at Wembley Stadium and then head off to The Hague (Bingoal Stadion) to take on the Netherlands.
Alyssa Naeher has accomplished everything you could imagine with the USWNT. In her brilliant 11-year international career, she was on three World Cup squads and three Olympic squads. Naeher won two World Cups and one gold medal.
Her first senior team cap came on Dec. 18, 2014, in a 7-0 win over Argentina in Brazil and last one will be December 3 against the Netherlands. Naeher heads into the two matches with an all-time record of 88-6-14 and a goals against average of 0.50 for her career.
She is third in goalkeeper caps (113), starts (110), wins (88), and shutouts (68) only behind Hope Solo and Briana Scurry. Along with those two legends, they make up three of the best in the history of the program.
Naeher’s performances in her tenure as the starting goalkeeper of the USWNT cemented her legacy as one of the best of all time. She will be dearly missed for her greatness on the pitch, but off of it as well.
She will play her club football with the Chicago Red Stars in 2025.
