USA: Damaged stadium for 2026 World Cup! How severe is damage? Hurricane Beryl, which recently hit Houston, left significant damage in its wake, including roof damage to NRG Stadium, home of the Houston Texans team. The element, which hit the region as a Category 1 hurricane, caused damage to many buildings and structures, leaving millions of people without power and causing flooding.

NRG Stadium, known for its unique retractable roof, was severely damaged by the hurricane. Pictures released by local media show a hole in the rippled part of the roof, posing a serious problem for the venue, which hosts numerous sporting events and concerts. The stadium authorities are waiting for a full assessment of the damage before providing an official report.
Like many of our neighbors in the Gulf Coast region, NRG Park sustained damage from Hurricane Beryl, including to the roof of NRG Stadium. While we assist with these efforts, we are also assessing the extent of damages to NRG Park facilities. We look forward to seeing our neighbors at NRG Park as soon as we return to normal operations, NRG Park general manager and executive director Ryan M. Walsh said in a statement.

Houston’s home regular-season opener is scheduled for September 15, against the Chicago Bears, and it is unclear whether the roof repairs will be in time by then. Despite this, the stadium of the local opponent, Houston Astros, suffered no serious damage from Hurricane Beryl and their home game against the Miami Marlins went ahead as scheduled.
The Texans have already had to postpone their home opening game against the Baltimore Ravens in the 2008 season in the past, after Category 2 Hurricane Ike, damaged the stadium and forced repairs to five sections of the roof.
