SEASIDE — In need of some insurance between the pipes, Monterey Bay F.C. has signed former Alisal High goalie Fabian Narez to a 25-day contract.
The 29-year-old Narez was brought in after the United Soccer League announced the suspensions of goalie Carlos Herrera and midfielder Walmer Martinez following an incident after the Union’s game with the Oakland Oaks.
The Union used a late goal from Chase Boone to beat Oakland 1-0 on April 6 to remain unbeaten on the road this spring.
Herrera received a red card and automatic one-game suspension, while Martinez will miss the next four USL matches for Monterey Bay F.C, who entertain the Las Vegas Lights on Saturday at 7 p.m. at Cardinale Stadium.
Narez spent last season as a goalie for Monterey Bay FC2, helping the team to a Northern California Division title in its inaugural season in 2023.
The 5-foot-8 Narez earned Gabilan Division all-league honors as a senior at Alisal, and played for Hartnell College.
He will serve as a backup for Antony Siaha, who has 14 saves and two shutouts to his credit in the Union’s 2-1-1 start in the USL.
