This postseason award comes with a tangible benefit… bonus points in a video game!
Postseason awards season has begun in European football, and two former UNC women’s soccer stars — Arsenal’s Lotte Wubben-Moy and Alessia Russo — have been named to the EA FC 24 Team of the Season.
✨ BWSL EA SPORTS FC24 Team Of The Season ✨

Congratulations @lottewubbenmoy, @alessiarusso7 and @Katie_McCabe11 ❤️
To catch you up, the hugely popular EA Sports franchise “EA Sports FIFA” was discontinued in 2023, and rebranded EA FC, with EA FC 24 the first release of the new series. This video game sponsors a “team of the season” or “TOTS” award, recognizing the best 11 players from the Barclay’s Women’s Super League (based on position) from the 2023-24 season.
What makes this postseason award different from the rest? Instead of just receiving a plaque or trophy, each player named on the team of the season will see their likeness in the EA FC 24 game upgraded with bonus “chemistry” points, which should integrate those players into their video game teams more easily, if you transferred them to a different club. It’s quite an interesting way to reward real-life excellence with a bump in video game performance!
Arsenal’s team performance this season has been a mixed bag. They were eliminated from the Champions League early, are mired in third place in the WSL, but did beat hated rivals Chelsea in the Conti Cup Final for the second year in a row.
Alessia Russo is enjoying a fine first season for the Gunners, having made a free transfer from Manchester United last summer. Wubben-Moy has become a more featured player, and her club form was rewarded with two starts for England, he first since 2021. Former Tar Heel Emily Fox also joined the Gunners in the January transfer window and has been transformative at right back.
Together, these Tar Heels have helped Arsenal’s women’s team break attendance records, regularly filling Emirates Stadium during their six matches in the men’s stadium. There is a growing appetite for women’s football in England, and Arsenal are at the forefront of feeding it. Wubben-Moy is also hard at work making sure that English girls are afforded opportunities to play football at school, when just two years ago, only 41% of secondary schools in the UK (grades 6-12) offered football to girls.
