PyeongChang (RWH) Second World Cup – same podium: In the second race of the IBSF World Cup 2024/25, the winner in the men’s skeleton was Christopher Grotheer (GER), as in the opening race the day before. The 2022 Olympic and 2024 World Champion moved from third place to the top of the 32-strong field with the best time in the second race run.
Second place at the Olympic Sliding Center in PyeongChang went to Britain’s Marcus Wyatt (0.06 seconds back), the 2024 European Champion, ahead of his team-mate and defending World Cup champion Matt Weston (GBR, 0.50 seconds back). Weston, the 2023 World Champion, had started from tenth place after the first run to make it onto the podium.
Samuel Maier (AUT), in second place after the first run and on his way to the best World Cup result for Austria in the men’s skeleton in over two decades, dropped two places in the second run in PyeongChang and finished fourth. In the end, the 25-year-old was seven hundredths of a second short of his second podium finish after January 2021 in Innsbruck.
The best athlete from the World Cup host team from Korea at the PyeongChang Olympic Sliding Center was once again Jisoo Kim, who equalled his best World Cup result so far with fifth place.
In the overall standings for the IBSF World Cup 2024/25, Christopher Grotheer (GER, 450 points) leads unbeaten after the second of eight races, ahead of Marcus Wyatt (GBR, 420) and Matt Weston (GBR, 400).
