The Ministry of Sport and Community Development has presented funding to the tune of US$1 million (TTD $6,792,353) to the Trinidad and Tobago Football Association (TTFA) as the first installment of a two-year financial commitment to support the nation’s preparations for the FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifiers.
The funds, provided through the Sports Company of Trinidad and Tobago (SporTT), will support the national football team’s journey, including team preparation, coaching, travel, and accommodation.
The first tranche of funding was formally handed over by Shamfa Cudjoe-Lewis, Minister of Sport and Community Development, at a special ceremony held at the Ministry’s head office in Port of Spain on January 2, 2025.
“This investment is a testament to our unwavering support for football and the broader vision of advancing Trinidad and Tobago’s presence in international competitions. The road to the FIFA World Cup 2026 is both a challenge and an opportunity, and we are proud to play our part in this journey,” said Cudjoe-Lewis.
This US$1 million forms part of a total allocation of US$2 million over the next two years to aid in the comprehensive efforts of the TTFA as they aim for World Cup qualification. TTFA President Kieron Edwards expressed his gratitude for the Ministry’s continued support: “This funding is not just financial—it’s a strong vote of confidence in our players, staff, and the entire football ecosystem.”
The Ministry of Sport and Community Development and the Sports Company of Trinidad and Tobago (SporTT) said they remain committed to empowering athletes and sporting organisations, and this initiative is a significant step in their mission to promote national pride, unity, and development through sport.
