JEFFERSON COUNTY, Okla. (KXII) – A trial date has been set for a former Ringling football coach who was accused of verbally and sexually abusing his players.
Court documents show that at a hearing Tuesday, Phillip Koons demanded a jury trial for the misdemeanor charge of outraging public decency.
In March, a judge allowed Koons to withdraw a no contest plea he made in early January.
Nine students have also filed a federal lawsuit against Koons, his two sons who served as assistant coaches, and the Ringling Public Schools Superintendent for civil rights violations related to the alleged abuse.
In August, the Oklahoma State Board of Education voted unanimously to suspend his teaching license.
The trial is set for February 10, 2025.
