Travis Head predicts Caribbean wickets; gives training update ahead of T20 World Cup 2024 – News9 LIVE

New Delhi: Flamboyant Australia batter Travis Head has given a major update on his T20 World Cup 2024 preparation after giving a glimpse of it on Wednesday as Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) mauled Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by 10 wickets. Playing at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad, Head struck unbeaten 89 runs off a mere 30 deliveries laced with eight fours and sixes alike with a strike rate nearing 300.
Head was adjudged the Player of the Match for his exploits. Abhishek Sharma (75* off 28 balls; 8 fours, 6 sixes) partnered with him for 167 runs which pummeled the LSG bowling attack in a record IPL chase. Both have turned out to be one of the most explosive pairings in the IPL this season as they made a mockery of the the 166-run target by overhauling it in just 9.4 overs. LSG had posted just 165/4 in 20 overs and the duo replied with the highest 10-over score in the history of men’s T20 cricket.
However, it may take a while for 23-year-old Sharma to make it to the Indian team but 30-year-old Head is a seasoned batter who has now been doing this for years. He has been named in Australia’s squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup, for all the right reasons. He is in sublime form in the IPL 2024, having amassed 533 runs in 11 innings at a soaring strike rate of 201.89.
Speaking at the post-match press conference, Head said, “Whenever you’re playing you want to be as consistent as you can, you want to be getting runs. It’s nice to be among the runs been nice to be playing well. That’s not going to guarantee anything in the West Indies but it gives me the best chance to be in a very good mindset.”
The southpaw went on to reveal how he preparing for the World Cup in the training sessions, drawing parallels to conditions in the Americas. “Working hard on training and I think we face a fair bit of spin in the Caribbean and wickets might become tougher as the tournament goes. So very pleased with how I played spin tonight, things that I’m working on in training are somewhat working in the moment,” Head added.
