Heide Trask High School has landed on its next football coach. 26-year old Ty Lovette will take over the Pender County program. He was officially approved yesterday.
He most recently served as the offensive coordinator at Topsail High across the county. He is the second major coach from Topsail to be hired away in as many days. Just yesterday, Topsail head coach Jack Teachey was hired by the Texas Tech football program.
Lovette’s father David was a coach in North Carolina for 21 seasons. 15 of those seasons were spent at Gray’s Creek High School in Cumberland County, which is where Ty went to high school and played. Ty graduated from Gray’s Creek in 2016.
David also served as the head coach at Robeson County high schools Red Springs (four years) and St. Pauls (two years). His overall record as a head coach was 138-108-1.

From 2018-19, Ty was a student coach at NC State. He served as the offensive line coach at Orange High School in Hillsborough from 2020-21.

Topsail brought Lovette in to be the offensive line coach in 2022 and he stayed in that role through the 2023 season. He was promoted to offensive coordinator for the 2024 season.
He is taking over for Lawrence Ches, who left after a 6-5 overall season and a playoff appearance.
The Rocky Point-based Trask, with an ADM of 772, is set to be a 3A team after the upcoming N.C. High School Athletic Association realignment. In the initial conference plan released by the NCHSAA, Trask was placed into a 3A/4A/5A conference with fellow 3As Pender, South Columbus, and West Bladen, 4As Clinton, Fairmont, and Red Springs, and 5A South Brunswick. The conference plans are subject to change following the appeals period.
