The Ohio State football program has already lost a talented running back to the portal. Now, they might lose a quarterback as well.
The Ohio State football team has a lot of quarterbacks on the roster right now. They have five scholarship guys who all think they should play either this year, next year, or both. Unfortunately, only one quarterback can play at a time so that leaves a lot of these guys unhappy.
Will Howard was brought in from the transfer portal as the presumptive starter for this season. He started in parts of three seasons for Kansas State, so he didn't leave there to ride the bench. He still has a lot he can gain from a strong showing in the Spring Game.
One of the quarterbacks is rumored to be leaving in the transfer portal once it opens on Monday. That quarterback is Lincoln Kienholz. Kienholz hasn't had a lot of playing time in his time in Columbus, only taking significant snaps against Missouri in the Cotton Bowl.
Kienholz was a true freshman last year and was a four-star recruit in Ohio State's recruiting class. He's obviously still very young and very talented. The problem for him is that He has an older QB who is going to start this year and two younger quarterbacks behind him who are more talented.
If Kienholz does leave for the portal, I can't blame him. Kienholz has a chance to start somewhere else and he probably could start for a lot of other Power 4 programs. He just needs the opportunity to get some playing time and compete for a starting job. He's not getting that with the Ohio State football program right now.
Next. Next story. Three Ohio State players with the most to lose with a poor Spring Game showing. dark
I do expect at least one of the quarterbacks to transfer once the portal opens after the Spring Game. These guys want to play and they all can't play for the Buckeyes. Devin Brown seems committed to staying, so that might leave Kienholz as the guy to leave.
