Texas football is preparing to play in the SEC Championship versus Georgia, but the recruiting race stops for nobody.
In recent years, December’s early signing day has effectively become National Signing Day as teams look to solidify the bulk of their recruiting class. While the actual National Signing Day is in February, most high school recruits will sign their National Letters of Intent during the early signing period.
Commitment flips are more common than ever. Texas lost three-star offensive lineman John Mills to Washington and four-star defensive lineman Joseph Mbatchou to Florida. However, they also flipped four-star defensive back Kade Phillips from his commitment to LSU.

Texas will attempt to sign a bulk of its commitments while also trying to sway some former recruiting targets into joining its class. Here are some updates on how National Signing Day is going for the Longhorns.
When Hilson de-committed from Florida State in September, recruiting pundits believed Texas might be one of the favorites to land the four-star edge rusher. However, momentum faltered late and Hilson eventually chose the Tigers over the Longhorns.
Hicks was pursued heavily by Colorado and Tennessee late, but the safety eventually stuck with his original choice, signing his NLI with Texas.
Hicks was previously rated as the No. 1 safety in the 2026 class before reclassifying and joining the Longhorns’ 2025 class. He’s the 16th-ranked safety in the nation according to 247Sports composite.
The focus shifts to Lewisville High School five-star offensive tackle Michael Fasusi, who’s set to sign at 2 p.m. While he’s committed to Oklahoma, Texas has been attempting to get him to flip for months.
After murmurs that Sharma might be considering USC, the four-star defensive lineman has signed his NLI with Texas. Ranked as the 22nd-best DL in the nation by 247Sports composite, the Folsom, California native was initially committed to Oregon before flipping to Texas in July.
Hicks is now the only Texas commit from the 2025 class that has not signed. He is set to go live with his signing at noon CT.
A Skyline High School product, Elijah Barnes is ranked as the fourth-best linebacker in the nation according to 247Sports Composite. Now, Texas is only waiting on four-star safety Zelus Hicks and four-star defensive lineman Joseph Sharma to sign.
Texas football on Wednesday landed a commitment from Michael Terry III, the nation’s first-ranked athlete, according to 247Sports Composite. Terry chose Texas over Nebraska and Oregon.
Texas had the fourth-ranked recruiting class in the nation before Terry’s commitment, behind Ohio State, Georgia and Alabama. Terry’s commitment gives the Longhorns the No. 1 class in the nation, with nine top-100 commits in the 2025 class.

The Longhorns have received National Letters of Intent from 21 players from its 2025 recruiting class. While recruits can still be released from these letters, commitment flips after signing NLIs are much more rare. There are currently three holdouts: four-star linebacker Elijah Barnes, four-star defensive lineman Josiah Sharma and four-star defensive back Zelus Hicks.
