Super Eagles Have World Cup Target – Lookman – Brila

Super Eagles forward, Ademola Lookman says the team’s top priority is to secure qualification for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and then push on to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Currently, Nigeria’s path in the AFCON qualifiers looks promising, needing just one more point to secure a place in the tournament in Morocco.
However, the World Cup qualifiers have been more challenging, with the Super Eagles currently in a precarious position—5th in their group with only 3 points from 4 games.
“We’ve shown good performances as a team in these AFCON qualifiers, and now we need to do better on a consistent basis,” Lookman told 54footballx.
“We’ve won two games and drawn one, so we will continue in this manner and try to win our games.
“Obviously the goal is to qualify for the Afcon and World Cup, so we are looking to do those things.”
Lookman also spoke warmly of interim coach Austin Eguavoen, crediting him for his initial call-up to the national team.

“It has been great. I have known him, obviously as the coach before because he [Eguavoen] gave me my first call-up to play for Nigeria, so I know him very well.” Lookman said.
The former Everton player has been a crucial player for the Super Eagles in their AFCON campaign, scoring two goals so far.
He is also a strong candidate for CAF Player of the Year, thanks to his outstanding performances for both Nigeria and his club, Atalanta.

The World Cup qualifiers will resume in March 2025, and Lookman is expected to play a significant role as Nigeria fights to secure its place in the tournament.
