Summerhill School SA Grade 5 learner Jarryd Pillay-De Bruyn has won the Cover Drive World Cup U10/11 cricket tournament with his team South African Cricket Academy.
Jarryd played in the Cover Drive World Cup hosted at Grayston Preparatory on October 27. His team made it to the finals against Cover Drive, however the first attempt to play the final game on October 20 was marred by lightning and rain, so, the game had to be rescheduled.

The second attempt on October 27, was again threatened by rain, but after an hour and a half delay, the game resumed. South African Cricket Academy won by 64 runs.

Jarryd performed remarkably well, ending with the third-best bowling figures of the tournament, and being the best bowler on his team. He took four wickets in four games, and his bowling led to many other catches and run-outs. He bowled 12 overs over the four games and delivered a total of 50 dot balls.
Jarryd, and his brother Trystan in Grade 7, picked up a cricket bat and ball for the first time in June of this year, when they joined the academy.
The school is proud of Jarryd and encourages him to keep up the good work and aim for the stars.
