Newcastle’s Joelinton suffers second burglary this year
Vinicius Jr.’s missed penalty leaves Brazil with 1-1 draw against Venezuela
Brazil’s recent performances have been underwhelming. Last night, they drew 1-1 against Venezuela, and with Uruguay up next in five days, optimism among fans of the five-time world champions is low. The team’s attacking struggles are evident—Vinicius Junior, Rodrygo, and Raphinha have managed just 18 goals in their last 26 matches combined. To put this in perspective, Neymar scored the same number in his most recent 26 appearances for Brazil.
The last time Neymar played for Brazil was over a year ago, before a severe injury sidelined him early last season. Although the 32-year-old recently returned to action, he quickly suffered another setback, leaving him on the sidelines once more.
As Neymar approaches his 33rd birthday in February, questions loom about how much he can still contribute at the highest level. Brazil desperately needs his creativity and flair to recapture the magic of the true Seleção. Much will depend on Neymar’s fitness and form by March 2024, when Brazil’s next international fixtures are scheduled.
By then, Neymar is expected to feature regularly—or at least be available—for his star-studded club, Al Hilal, in Saudi Arabia. Whether he can reignite Brazil’s spark remains to be seen.
If you ask me to define clutch, it would definitely be this one. Sometimes I wish Neymar was Argentinian!! pic.twitter.com/fStDbx3QYc
