Staunton soccer, Gap softball and tennis win; Stuart Hall's Plummer, Grace's Hain all state: Sports roundup – The News Leader

STAUNTON — Staunton scored a pair of first half goals and went on to beat Stuarts Draft 5-0 in Shenandoah District boys soccer Wednesday night at Winston Wine Memorial Stadium.
Five players scored goals for the Storm in the win, Staunton’s sixth shutout of the season. Staunton is currently on a three-game winning streak.
Mark Geffrard, Andrew Efird, Josh Bryant, Wyeth Buckman and Alex Kuntz all scored goals in the victory. Efird also added a pair of assists and Jack Dean had an assist
Senior Buckley Casen had two saves and recorded the shutout for Staunton.
Staunton is now 5-1-1 on the season and will play at Wilson Memorial Tuesday.
SWOOPE — It only took five innings for Buffalo Gap to take care of Nelson County Tuesday night in nondistrict softball action. The Bison scored multiple runs in each of the first four innings to win 15-0.
Freshman Elissa Caricofe finished the day 4-for-4 with five RBIs and a run scored. Bailey Talley added a pair of RBIs and scored four times. Rachel Showalter pitched four innings of shutout ball, giving up five hits and striking out six. Charleigh Phillips pitched the final inning for the Bison.
Gap is now 3-1 and will host Wilson Memorial Friday night.
SWOOPE — Buffalo Gap beat Fort Defiance 6-3 Wednesday in girls tennis. The teams split the singles matches before the Bison swept doubles for the victory. Gap is now 4-2 on the season while Fort drops to 0-6.

STAUNTON — Stuart Hall’s Tafari Plummer was named to the 2024 VISAA Division IV all-state first team in basketball. Hall helped guide the Dragons to its first state quarterfinal appearance in school history.
Grace Christian’s Justin Hain was named second team all-state in VISAA Division IV.
