The Startup World Cup competition, founded by Pegasus Tech Ventures in 2016, has solidified its position as the largest startup competition globally. Hosting events across nearly 100 cities worldwide, the competition offers innovative startups a chance to win regional contests and advance to a prestigious Grand Finale, where they can showcase their ideas to an audience of over 2,500 tech enthusiasts, investors, and industry leaders.
With an aim to reach even more groundbreaking startups across diverse sectors, Startup World Cup is expanding its regional events to iconic venues. New regional competitions will take place at major technology and innovation gatherings, including the CES in Las Vegas, South by Southwest (SXSW) in Austin, and New York Tech Week in Manhattan. Startups that win these regional contests will join other top contenders at the Grand Finale in 2025, where they will compete for the coveted grand prize and global recognition.
At the 2024 Grand Finale, held recently in San Francisco, EarthGrid PBC emerged as the winner of the $1 million grand prize. Based in the Bay Area, EarthGrid is a public benefit corporation pioneering a revolutionary plasma tunnel-boring technology aimed at transforming infrastructure by improving electricity transmission grids in the U.S. and internationally. Competing against nine other finalists, EarthGrid was selected as the winner by a panel of esteemed Silicon Valley venture capitalists.
The 2024 Grand Finale featured an impressive lineup of finalists from around the world, representing countries including Vietnam, Israel, Hong Kong, Japan, Canada, and the U.S. These ten finalists advanced from a semi-final held in San Francisco, where they were chosen from 84 regional winners spanning 50 countries and six continents.
“We’re excited to expand the Startup World Cup competition further in 2025,” said Anis Uzzaman, Founder and CEO of Pegasus Tech Ventures. “Entrepreneurs worldwide are developing innovative solutions, and the Startup World Cup offers them a unique platform to pitch their ideas to potential corporate partners, investors, and media, helping accelerate their growth on a global scale.”
