(Council Bluffs) — St. Albert multi-sport standout Ella Klusman will play soccer at the next level with College of St. Mary in Omaha.
The Saintes’ all-around star wasn’t sure she would play anything at the next level. However, things became clear for her during a match against Harlan this year.
“It was actually kind of funny,” Klusman said. “I was thinking I was going to miss this too much. I talked to a Harlan girl (during the match), and she asked if I was going to play (in college). I decided right then I was. That girl from Harlan kind of helped me.”
Klusman’s abilities on the pitch have led to 26 goals and 11 assists during her senior season.
“I started looking around,” Klusman said. “Some coaches were reaching out, and then I just stuck with Jamison Parkhill. He’s been nice, and it was easy with him.”
Parkhill, who is the new head coach at CSM, is also the Abraham Lincoln boys soccer coach, so the familiarity was there for both.
“I think being at St. Albert, it’s such a small school and to go to a big university after that would kind of be a little bit too big of a jump for me,” Klusman said. “When I toured College of St. Mary it was the perfect size, and the campus was pretty. The girls were super nice, and it just felt right.”
