RENO, Nev. (KOLO) – The Washoe County DA’s office announced that a local soccer coach has received two life sentences for the sexual abuse of two boys.
36-year-old Sergio Ortiz of Sparks will be eligible for parole after 35 years.
Ortiz was arrested by the Sparks Police Department in April of this year, with the initial case focusing on a single victim. During a confession to detectives, however, Ortiz identified a second victim, which police were able to confirm.
Both boys were known to Ortiz, with one child meeting him through his involvement in a youth soccer program. The abuse occurred between 2013 and 2018, when the victims were in elementary school.
Ortiz pled guilty to one count of sexual assault of a minor under 16 and one count of lewdness with a minor under 14.
