Sowegan Soccer Club hosts Youth Camp ahead of final matches – WALB

ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) – After 4 matches over the past 12 days, the Sowegan soccer club finally had some time to relax but they didn’t spend it how you think they might have, away from the field instead they are actually on the field, hosting a youth camp here at Byne Christian school.
Kids across the community kick off their sneakers and lace up their cleats for an unforgettable experience with the Gulf Coast Premiere League’s Sowegan Turtles. The team welcomed kids of all skill levels to come out and learn some new skills. Campers ranged from all ages and energy levels. Midfielder Diego Consenza said “it’s very nice, we have the younger group and they have a lot of energy but it’s fun and I’m going to miss it.”
The four-day camp was packed with activities to improve agility, teamwork, and sportsman ship. They also are keeping their math skills intact while school is out by incorporating math questions into soccer drills. “I hope first thing is that they have fun, and than they learn something about soccer with us but the the first thing is have fun” said Consenza.
From drills to matches, the youth soccer camp shaped young athletes and sharpened their skills under the guidance of seasoned coaches who are set to make the playoffs in just the team’s second year as an established organization
“I mean it’s almost done and I’m sad but there is going to be playoffs” said Consenza. ”It’s going to be fun and enjoyable and I hope we get one of the two first places to go and play a home game.”
Friday marked the fourth and final day of the camp. The turtles switched their focus back the game ahead of their final home match where they hope to lock up the number one spot in the Gulf Coast Premiere League East standings and earn home advantage in the playoffs.
