Kent, Ohio- The Kent State soccer team will travel to DeKalb Illinois to square off with the Northern Illinois Huskies on Thursday Oct 10. Kickoff is currently slated for 5 p.m. ET.

Last Time Out

In a battle between two of the best teams in the Mid-American Conference, the Kent State soccer team fell 3-1 to Western Michigan at Zoeller Field at Dix Stadium.

The loss marks the second in a row at home for the Golden Flashes (5-4-2, 2-2-1 MAC) while the Broncos (6-1-5, 3-0-2 MAC) remain one of only two unbeaten teams in conference play.

The Flashes were able to strike first with a goal off the right foot of Jules Dolinski. The freshman netted her first goal in the 17th minute when Alanna Raimondo played a pass to her just inside the 18-yard box, Dolinski took a touch and put the ball into the bottom corner of the net.

The Broncos scored twice in a 10-minute span to jump out to a 2-1 advatage. Netting goals in the 29th and 39th minutes. Western Michigan would add an insurance goal in the 84th minute to put the game out of reach for Flashes.

Kent State struggled to find their offensive footing in the second half as the Western Michigan defense stood strong. The Flashes were unable to put a shot on goal in the final 45 minutes.

Rising in the Record Book

Alisa Arthur is rising in many categories of the Kent State record book. The senior is now ninth in both goals (22) and points (58) and is knocking on the door of being in the top 10 in assists and shots on goal.

Great Goalkeeping

Goalkeeper Heidi Marshall has been in great form to start MAC play. The senior has played all 450 conference minutes in goal for the Flashes recording 17 saves in the five games with three shutouts. Marshall has dropped her goals allowed average from 2.0 going into MAC play down to 1.45.

Scouting Northern Illinois

Senior forward, Tyra King, leads the huskies’ offense in points (16), goals (six), assists (four), shots (34), and shots on goal (21). Right behind her is junior forward, Kelsi McLaughlin, she has 11 points, four goals, and three assists.

Ary Purifoy has been the main goalie in net for Northern Illinois this season. The graduate transfer from Oklahoma State has played all the minutes in goal during MAC play tallying 23 saves across the five games.

Series History

Thursday afternoon will mark the 30th meeting all time between Kent State and Northern Illinois, the Flashes hold the lead in the all-time series 14-10-5. The two sides met twice last season in Kent, the Flashes fell to the Huskies 1-2 in the regular season affair but came out on top 3-0 in the first round of the MAC postseason tournament.
