FRANKLIN – A couple state champions from track and field – and training partners – were named the latest Gateway Tire Athletes of the Week for the week ending May 19.
MURFREESBORO – The matchups nearly mirror the last time the Ravenwood High School boys’ soccer team advanced to the Class AAA state tournament when the Raptors reached the program’s only final. But that was 2016.
Like much of Middle Tennessee right now, Leonora Green Clifford’s yard is covered in cicadas. But her six-foot-long painted foam board bugs stand out a bit more than their small, serenading cousins.
The General Federation of Women’s Clubs (GFWC) and Spring Station Woman’s Club held their inaugural Fairytale Tea fundraiser in the event barn located on the grounds of Enchanted Springs at Gordon Farms, in Spring Hill.
Thought for the week — The MOST IMPORTANT WORDS in the English language are: “I AM PROUD OF YOU—MAY I HELP YOU—I LOVE YOU—THANK YOU—and WE.
Since retiring, Love-Weasel and I both have been asked, probably a thousand times each, when we’re going to start traveling.

MURFREESBORO – The matchups nearly mirror the last time the Ravenwood High School boys’ soccer team advanced to the Class AAA state tournament when the Raptors reached the program’s only final. But that was 2016.
The Raptors scored a 2-0 shutout in the state semifinals over Howard to advance to the finals to face Bearden Friday at 1:30 p.m. at the Richard Siegel Soccer Complex. This was on the heels of a 3-2 win over Houston in a flurried finish to open the state tournament.
Back in 2016, the Ravenwood boys edged Houston in the semis before falling to Bearden in the finals.
MURFREESBORO – Noah Bjorkman scored with five minutes remaining in regulation Tuesday to pro…
“Let’s make history,” Ravenwood senior keeper Alon Biger said after Tuesday’s win over the Mustangs.
The boys are on the main stage to do just that after emerging out of the loaded all-Williamson County District 10-AAA, winning the Region 5-AAA championship by dethroning two-time defending state champion and arch rival Brentwood and now pushing all the way into the state finals.
Hayes Grismore scored 12 minutes into Wednesday’s semifinal on a rebound attempt off a ball from Noah Bjorkman. Less than three minutes later, Spencer Brown found the back of the net to provide the match’s scoring.
Biger and the defense did the rest to record the shutout.
The match endured plenty of weather delays and was pushed back more than 3.5 hours because of a powerful storm system that slowly scooted over the Murfreesboro area. Power flickered on and off at the soccer complex with lightning strikes consistently firing in the area.
The TSSAA called all softball games, while soccer, baseball and track and field all went deep into the night once the skies cleared.
Ravenwood resumed just before 8 p.m. after a 4:30 p.m. start.
That didn’t affect the Raptors, who racked up 23 shots to Howard’s 10. They also held a 4-2 edge on corners.
Howard had advanced with a 1-0 win over Science Hill. Bearden pushed into the final with a 1-0 victory over Hendersonville, the team that edged Brentwood in the sectional in penalty kicks to deny the two-time defending champs a shot at a 3-peat.
The lone goal in the other semifinal also came early, in the 12th, when Bearden’s Dillon Sims scored. Goalkeeper Logan Nelson made six saves to shut down the Commandos, a 3-1 winner over Rossview in the opening round Tuesday.
Bearden is playing in its third final since 2019. Ravenwood enters 18-2-4 overall, while Bearden stands at 20-3-1.
