HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Happening Saturday in Kona, top keiki soccer players from across the state are showcasing their skills and trying out for a chance to compete in Japan.
From 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Old Kona Airport Beach Park, the Major Island Soccer Organization is holding its MISO Games and Elite Japan Tryouts to select athletes for a 13-day cultural experience next summer.
MISO Coaching Director Tom Atencio joined HNN’s Sunrise to talk about the soccer league, which supports young athletes with opportunities to elevate their game on both local and international stages.
“The MISO Games bring together Hawaii’s top soccer players for a competitive and community-centered experience. The matches serve as a platform for athletes to demonstrate their skills, teamwork, and strategic abilities. Beyond competition, the games celebrate the spirit of soccer in Hawaii, fostering unity among players, coaches, and families. This event underscores the importance of sportsmanship and the collective effort to advance soccer across the islands,” MISO said.
MISO Elite Japan tryouts are being held at the same time to select players who have the potential to represent Hawaii internationally.
“The program emphasizes excellence on the field, cultural exchange, and the development of life skills, such as adaptability and global citizenship,” MISO said.
