MARSHFIELD, WI. (WAOW) — The city of Marshfield now has a semi-professional soccer team in the Wisconsin Conquerors Football Club, and they’re partnering with the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point Marshfield to make it happen.
The Conquerors FC are playing in the National Premiere Soccer League (NPSL) for their inaugural season.
“You never know where you’re going to find talent, and in my experience I’ve found that talent is everywhere you know not in the big cities, not just in the big countries, in a place like Marshfield you can find top talent,” said Dr. Alexander Eddo, Founder.
They’re training with the help of UWSP Marshfield’s facilities, which will serve as a home base for the team.
It’s a partnership leaders hope will last for years to come.
Dr. Eddo said they hope the club will bring the community together.
“The club belongs to the community you know, it belongs to the community, five years, ten years if we’re not here the club will still exist and young players, your children, your grandchildren as they’re growing up they can be a part of this club,” said Dr. Eddo.
A few members of the team area even UWSP students, who said they have great hope for the club.
“You know I think every performance we’ve kind of built off of and I definitely see kind of a bright future for the team whether its this season or next season or within the coming months I’m sure we’ll start to see some more success”.” said Shade Kaiser, incoming freshman at UWSP.
The Conquerors are also partnering with the Marshfield Youth Soccer Association to develop players and coached from the Central Wisconsin community.
