SEATTLE — Seattle’s Lumen Field will host six matches during the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup next summer.
An announcement came Tuesday from Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA). All three of the Seattle Sounders’ group-stage matches will be played at Lumen Field. The Seattle stadium will have six Club World Cup matches in total.
The Sounders are the lone American club that has earned a spot in the inaugural event.
“Six games of the FIFA Club World Cup will take place in this stadium, and the three games of the group stage of the Seattle Sounders will take place here,” FIFA President Gianni Infantino said in a release. “So, we want to hear some noise, and the World Cup [noise record] being broken in this stadium by the Seattle Sounders fans during the FIFA Club World Cup next year.”
Sounders FC qualified for the tournament after becoming the first and currently only Major League Soccer team to capture a CONCACAF Champions Cup title in 2022.
The first FIFA Club World Cup will be held from June 15-July 13, 2025 at 12 stadiums across the U.S. The Club World Cup will feature the best teams from the different confederations across the globe, including international powerhouses like Real Madrid (Spain), Chelsea (England), Manchester City (England), Bayern Munich (Germany), Paris Saint-Germain (France) and Inter Milan (Italy).
Thirty teams have qualified for the event. The two remaining spots in the competition are reserved for the 2024 Copa Libertadores winner and the selected representative from the host country.
