The Sacred Heart soccer team secured a 3-1 victory to win the state title, finishing the season undefeated against Kentucky teams.
Caitlin Chase scored the first goal just before halftime, giving her team the momentum.
In the second half, Megan Schrader and Isabella Bostock extended the lead with two more goals.
Despite allowing a penalty kick goal, Sacred Heart’s defense remained strong.
Head coach Shaun Francis praised the team’s performance and resilience throughout the season.
“Actually, I think we took a lot, a lot from last year coming into this year,” said Francis. “These girls had a really big chip on their shoulders. And one thing for them was taking each game at a time, enjoying the moment, but at the same time, understanding that there’s a bigger picture to making sure we get back to this stage.”
Senior Caitlin Chase expressed joy in ending her high school soccer career with a state championship.
“Throughout my years, we have not gotten a state title,” said Chase. “And so it was a great way to end the year and our time as seniors, and it was, just, it was just wonderful for the team. I think you could see the love from everyone. We had a bunch of supporters out here with us today, and it was just so great to be able to come and play on this field and win.”
